A NOTE TO VISITORS-
HOW IS SAN YAMA RYU DIFFERENT?
San Yama Ryu is a composition of the techniques taken from karate, kempo, judo, jujutsu and aikijutsu. We have distilled our experience in martial arts and teach only the techniques we feel will work for self-defense while also preserving the samurai arts. The approach is to shape a path for each unique member of our dojo family.
You will progress through elements of each art during your study in our dojo beginning with kempo and karate which is based on traditional blocks, strikes, and kicks. Next you will enter into the phase of study concerned with throws, jointlocks and chokes called jujutsu. Your study will culminate in the aiki arts which are typically focused on more fluid and circular projections.
It is our goal to train our students how to survive life which sometimes includes violent attacks. During the early level of training we will focus on evasive techniques to keep you out of harms way. The next level will condition your body for physical contact and train you to neutralize your opponent. Next you will combine these areas to develop a personal method of self-defense. After reaching black belt you will cultivate the use of weapons (both traditional and modern).
To be blunt, there is no perfect martial art and not every person will be a fit here. Because of that, don't expect long contracts, scheduled rank tests, nor easy promotions. So to answer that questions, San Yama is not different, it is made up of like-spirited martial artists who are on a journey. They are different. We are different. If you are you might be a great fit here.
